WORK HISTORY
EPS SOFTWARE

Houston, Texas, 11/2008 – 5/2009
Primary Duties: Contracted to help “skin” a WPF application for bankruptcy trustee management software. Used Photoshop, Expression Blend, Expression Design and other tools to create graphic mock-up of entire user experience for application. This includes creating specific icons (magnifying glass, read/write, etc.) as well as specific controls, such as buttons, scroll bars, combo boxes, etc. Also created logos and enforced a specific color scheme throughout the project. Additional work was spent on creating a Silverlight version of the application for Web deployment.

 

WORDMARK ASSOCIATES

Houston, Texas, 7/2008 – 11/2008
Primary Duties: Hired by Wordmark to create online training material using Flash-based tools. Scripted, storyboarded and illustrated the project based on their source material. The project was created with the Articulate Suite (Presenter, Quizmaker, and Engage) and Adobe Creative Suite 3 (Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, etc.), 3D illustrations (Strata 3D CX5). Used freeware audio software to record narration track.  This project had a very aggressive deadline, yet we managed to deliver the hour-long presentation on time and the VP in charge of the project said that we “exceeded all expectations.”

 

KNOWLEDGE RESERVOIR

Primary Duties: KR is an upstream oil & gas consulting company; I created Web applications for internal use and B2B clients using the Microsoft platform (Visual Studio, SQL Server, VB.NET, classic ASP, Access, IIS, SharePoint and Silverlight), Adobe tools (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Flash, and Contribute) and ArcGIS. Duties included designing and implementing Web applications, creating databases, installing, configuring Web and file servers, installing SSL certificates, and assisting with day-to-day networking issues for a multi-national, multi-lingual corporation. When I started, the company did not have any internal standards or practices regarding UI design. I implemented a simple best-practices process for documenting user requirements, tracking whether these requirements were met, simple user testing, and requiring internal sign-off for completed projects.

 

GELB CONSULTING SERVICES

Primary Duties: Hired as Contractor to work as Chief Web Developer creating MediaSight, an ASP.NET (VB) Web application for administering surveys about media usage in multiple markets throughout the USA and Canada.  Met with VP and project managers to take project from concept stage to full deployment.  To this end, I documented the project needs, designed and created the database in MS SQL 2003, and did all development in Dreamweaver and Visual Studio including UI, client-side validation via JavaScript.  This project had several interesting requirements, including the ability to dynamically set database table names based on the survey origin.  Other interesting aspects including migrating Excel flat files into SQL Server, and writing rudimentary reports. Project concluded with me writing full documentation regarding functionality and process documentation detailing how to add additional questions and markets in the future: also created an Excel Spreadsheet to facilitate this in the future. I was initially hired for a 4-6 week contract on a small portion of the application, but they were so pleased with my work that they asked me to stay for 5 months to complete the entire project.

Wrote a content management system to facilitate the editorial department's posting and categorizing news stories. ARGENT CONSULTING SERVICES, INC.

Primary Duties: Worked in a high-stress environment to handle all aspects of marketing for an environmental consulting company. Chief responsibility included creating a unified look and message for all aspects of the company’s public persona through coordinated brochures, advertising, flyers, Websites, trade shows, and client mailers. Wrote, with guidance from the company president, reports that were presented to the Texas Governor’s office, and several articles that appeared in industry trade publications. Supported programmers by creating original graphics and HTML for the company’s Web-enabled software products. Duties included pinch-hitting for programmers by doing some ASP coding when needed. Also responsible for rebranding the company’s software for other licensees, including ComplianceSentry, opsEnvironmental, and others.

Primary responsibilities included supervising department and working with developers to create Web-enabled applications for clients. Responsible for delivering code that could be easily implemented in an object-oriented environment. Other duties included technical writing, system documentation, and creating proof-of-concept/workflow demos that could serve as frameworks for future development. Also worked on marketing initiatives, which included numerous print ads, brochures, inserts, and a television commercial that was produced in-house; created and documented forms and standards used to track all graphics projects. Also responsible for budgeting multimedia and print jobs.

Primary Duties: Started as graphics consultant but was rapidly promoted to Graphics Department Team Leader responsible for four-person team. Interviewed, hired and fired junior designers. Worked with Project Managers and VP of Business Development to schedule internal and external projects including Web sites, Web Applications, brochures, technical documentation, user manuals, and provide services to support business development. Created detailed Proof of Concept applications sometimes just mocking them up in PowerPoint or in static HTML) for Sensus, StaffMark, Alstom and other clients that helped drive more than $750,000 in sales). Primary Duties: Created Websites for University outreach departments. Primary responsibilities were in print; created print jobs to promote Engineering Department services to local manufacturing community. Worked with many departments to maximize returns on small budgets. Wrote detailed job specifications and multi-tasked to meet simultaneous deadlines. Used to extensive knowledge of printing to maximize print budgets, often saving 20% - 40% per project on brochures, posters, product sheets, and more. Researched and authored a ground-breaking report on Infrastructure requirements for the U.S./Mexico border that was presented to the U.S. Congress and helped shape policy during original NAFTA discussions (the report went into multiple reprints and served as one of the lynchpins of a Border Infrastructure/NAFTA conference sponsored by then-Vice President, Al Gore.
